EOBI

Hasham Sheikh asked 5 months ago
My sister has been working since 2005 however her employer only registered her with EOBI in 2016. Now she is already 55 years old but EOBI is declining to issue her pension on the pretext that as per their requirements at least 15 years they should have been paid by my sister / employer. They are also not accepting payment at this stage. It is extremely unfair that she is unable to get pension despite that the fact she has worked for same employer for 20 years. I would appreciate if you Can advise if there is a way she Can receive her pension.

Your sister should file a written complaint with EOBI Head Office and then, if rejected, approach the Labour Court against the employer for failing to register her timely. Courts have held that delay in EOBI registration is the employer’s fault, not the employee’s, so she can still claim her pension based on her actual service record.
