What is contempt of court ? Is contempt of court is bailable offence? What is punishment of contempt of court?
Intentionally defying an order from Court is considered a Contempt of Court, For example, if a Judge presiding a case passes an order for both parties to adhere to, and one party does not comply with the order of the court (and is also unable to justify their actions) then that party would be liable for Contempt.
According to the contempt of court ordinance, 1998 there are different types of contempt, for example criminal contempt, civil contempt, judicial contempt etc etc. and subject to sub-section(2), any person who commits contempt of court shall be punished with imprisonment which may extend to six months simple imprisonment, or with fine which may extend to one hundred thousand rupees, or with both.
